Here on the last leg of the triple crown we don’t have any triple crown contenders but have a great group of horses. I like Ice Box he is on the top of his game and his late closing style does favor to be important in the Belmont with the long distance. Then you have Fly Down who is a bit of a long shot but this horse being lightly seasoned will be in the mix. He has the ability to accelerate in the prestretch and will challence Ice Box trying to get the early jump. Dave in Dixie~ you may ask why this horse and I would agree with you in a million ways that this long shot should not be in the mix but….Who is riding this horse? Calvin Borel is the answer and this top jockey gets to pick most of the horses he rides. He picked this horse and their might be a reason beyond paper so I will be putting him in the top 3 because I know borel does not like to lose. Good luck and happy handicapping~
Dave in Dixie Calvin Borel 126 20-1
Spangled Star Garrett Gomez 126 30-1
Uptowncharlybrown Rajiv Maragh 126 10-1
Make Music for Me Joel Rosario 126 10-1
Fly Down John Velazquez 126 9-2
Ice Box Jose Lezcano 126 3-1
Drosselmeyer Mike Smith 126 12-1
Game On Dude Martin Garcia 126 10-1
Stately Victor Alan Garcia 126 15-1
Stay Put Jamie Theriot 126 20-1
First Dude R. Dominguez 126 7-2
Interactif Javier Castellano 126 12-1
With a complete battle to the end Looking at Lucky gets a nice ride to victory over First Dude, and Jackson Bend who always gets up in the mix with them but can not pull a victory off in these big races. Dublin got a horrible kick out of the gate which that he could never recover. I think that Supersaver had a nice ride and set up but the pace was just too fast too keep up with. Onto the Belmont in a few weeks for the last leg of the Triple Crown. No Crown winners this year but a few incredible races. We will see how the Belmont brakes down leading up to it. It appears it will be a wide open field of great horses. The absence of Supersaver and Looking for lucky as they decide to pull them from the Belmont. Still will be a competitive race all the way to the End. Have a Great week!!
This horse did not make the derby but will be making his presence at the Preakness. Last time out this grandson of Belmont stakes winner AP Indy finished 4th after being squeezed between Awesome Act and Jackson Bend. The Wood Memorial was won by Aleskyandria who is now retired and out of the running. He has six career starts with six career jockeys so setting a definite racing style has not been an easy task for this horse. This horse belongs in the mix and has a strong 2nd in the tampa bay Derby and is well rested for this trip.
This horse has gone winless in its last 7 starts but will be battleing in the preakness. It has raced with these big boys before and shows that it belongs in the class. It was just behind Dublin in the hopeful and a tad behind Nobles Promise Breeders Futrity~ One thing to note for sure is that this is a confirmed closer. With the speed in these triple crown races they can burn each other out and then here comes a horse like Aikenite. Look at the form and if you are looking for a closer. This could be a sleeper and is not afraid of the mud like it pulled off on the 24th finishing a competitive 2nd.
This horse surpised alot of people in the Derby snagging the post postion going against a very strong field. This horse gets up in the mix and started his run at Churchill in the mud finishing a distant 7th last July. He will be at it again and can take the early lead but there will be some fresh blood on the track on Saturday. We will see his true heart and what he is capable of. If the track is muddy or sloppy Saturday you have to put him in the top 3 he has proved that. If its not I would look somewhere else though..
Looks like Borel is very confident on SuperSaver saying that this horse will win the Triple Crown, As we all know this is not an easy feat and has not been accomplished since 1978 by Affirmed. Super Saver got a nice 104 seed rating in the Derby. It would be nice to see a triple crown winner come to a sport that needs it. We have been saying this year in and year out but with the speed that these horses train for its easier said than done. The Preakness is a longer race and in the past the first 2 legs have has been accomplished a handful of times. With the Preakness shaping up on Saturday there will be a full field of some good horses we will look one by one and see how things shape up.
Looks like Supersaver will be making a run for the triple crown with Calvin Borel trying to take him all the way in 2010. It appears Dublin who led for a short while in the Derby along with Nobiles Promise will be the familiar company as they battle it out. The Preakness is a little less than 2 weeks away and is limited to 14 post postions I am sure there will be some new rivals. Was Supersaver that good or just that good on a sloppy track.. we will see
Well looks like it was a beyond wet at the Derby on Saturday and I try not to clutter this blog with a lot of posting that don’t mean anything. Supersaver as predicted came in strong and finished in 1st. Borel is an amazing jockey and that horse loved the rain. Also looks like Ice box laid back and tried to catch him at the end finishing 2nd. Lets see if we can do good in the up coming preakness. Do we have a triple crown winner on the horizon.. only time will tell
This horse has a winnin the FLorida Derby which earned him a spot here. Unlike his competitors he has some good endurance building races that were at 9 furlongs. He lost big to Esckendereya in the Fountain of youth but that horse is out of the running and he had to deal with an extreme outside post. Watch this horse to lay back and then try a big closing run to gain ground late and snatch an upset is the only chance this horse has.
